Pitchers' Success
From 2007 through 2024, in every season except one a pitcher trained in the basics through PitchingMagic has led her team to the MSHSL State Tournament in Mankato, Minnesota (excluding the COVID year 2020 with no tournament). A total of 31 teams were represented during that 16 year stretch.
2024 had some outstanding highlights. At the college level Grace Folkema (from Rush City) set the single season strikeout record for all level of Junior College (while pitching just under half of her team's innings). She was named as a fist team All American and led her team to the if necessary game at the World Series losing by 1 run in 10 innings. Ashley Mandell pitched for West Texas A&M, a division 2 school playing in arguably the best conference in the country, and she led the Lone Star Conference in ERA.
2024 had some great highlights at the high school level as well including Hannah Tong and Avery Muellner (both Forest Lake) and Kendal Pillar (Rush City) earning all state honors. The preseason publication Breakdown named 3 10th grade pitchers to the top 30 underclassmen in the state, Avery Muellner, Kendal Pillar and Ariel Xiong (Spring Lake Park). In the HS section quarter final and semi final games, Kendal recorded 18 strikeouts in each of two games on the same day.
2024 also had great outcomes for the summer teams, taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the 10U Tier 1 state tournament. In the USSSA (club teams) state tournament their teams finished 1st and 2nd in at 12U, 1st and 2nd at 14U A and winning 14U open.
2022 saw Forest Lake win its first state championship behind Hanna Tong and Avery Muellner. Also Chisago Lakes made its first ever state tournament appearance, finishing 3rd, with Ashley Mandell and Anna Zaruba leading the way. Ashley earned all state honors. Chisago Lakes and Forest Lake each finished 2nd in 2023.
2021 also had a lot of pitching achievements. Hannah Tong, Avery Muellner and Megan Wolff pitched Forest Lake to second place at the MSHSL state tournament. 9th grader Hannah and 7th grader Avery were the only two pitchers to beat #1 ranked Stillwater with Avery doing it in the quarter finals of the state tournament.
10th grader Ashley Mandell pitched Chisago Lakes to a #1 seed in Section 7AAA. Ashley was named second team all state (AAA) by the Minnesota Fastpitch Coaches Association and earned 3rd team all state (all classes combined) from the Star Tribune. Also Genevieve Ovsak (Edina) earned all state honors.
